British-Irish soprano Hazel Neighbour joins the soloist ensemble of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck for the 2025/26 season. Her roles there include Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Malinka/Etherea/Kunka (Die Ausflüge des Herrn Brouček), Pedro (Don Quichotte), and Echo in the Austrian premiere of missing in cantu (eure paläste sind leer) by Johannes Maria Staud.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Hazel has performed with renowned UK companies including Glyndebourne, Mid Wales Opera, and Grimeborn Festival. Notable roles include Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Mimì (La bohème), Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen), and Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte).

Hazel is a committed interpreter of new and contemporary opera. She has created several roles in world premieres, including Atalya in The Butt by Susie Self, adapted from the cult novel by Will Self, at Musiktheatertage Wien, and Noel Olivier in Strange Ghost by David Earl at the Cambridge Festival Theatre. She has also sung the Governess in The Turn of the Screw (Dartington International Festival) and the Bride in Judith Weir’s The Vanishing Bridegroom (British Youth Opera).

Fluent in French, Hazel has a particular affinity for French repertoire, with roles including L’Ensoleillad in Chérubin (Massenet) and Micaëla in Carmen.

A keen recitalist and passionate interpreter of art song, Hazel is an alumna of the Franz Schubert Institut Lied programme in Austria and the Academy Song Circle. Highlights of her concert appearances include Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder, and Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony
